Hey there, I’m Tanisha Anderson. I’m a Mezzo-Soprano working and living in New York City.

 

Tanisha Anderson is a 2x Grammy Award-winning Mezzo-Soprano and National Marian Anderson Scholar Artist who has sung throughout the East Coast and in Europe with companies such as The Crossing, Opera Philadelphia, The Princeton Festival, The Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds (Charleston, SC & Spoleto, Italy), Berks Opera, Tapestry, VoxAma Deus Ensemble, Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, and New York Choral Society.

Ms. Anderson has performed under conductors Riccardo Muti, Steven Mecurio, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Robert Shaw, Joseph Flummerfelt, Donald Nally, Kurt Masur, Jaap Van Zweden, Kensho Watanabe and Yannick Nézet-Séguin in concert halls including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, The Academy of Music, McCarter Theater and The Kimmel Center. Performances of note include the Bejiing Modern Music Program, the Richard Tucker Music Foundation Gala, American Ballet Theater’s performance of Sibelius’ The Tempest, Christmas at Carnegie Hall, and as an ensemble member on Decca's recording of Pagliacci under the direction of Riccado Muti, featuring Luciano Pavarotti in the title role.

Ms. Anderson was also a proud ensemble member of the Spoleto Festival’s special anniversary appearing in the production of Porgy and Bess, singing the role of Tia Isabel in Capitol Opera Richmond’s production of Felipe de Leon’s Opera Noli Me Tangere, and covered the role of Tisbe in Berks Opera Company’s production of Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola.

In 2014, Ms. Anderson became a member of the renowned group The Crossing under the direction of Donald Nally. Members of the choral group, including Ms. Anderson, joined together for a world premiere recording of Gavin Bryar’s The Fifth Century, which won the 2018 Grammy for Best Choral Performance. Ms. Anderson continues singing as a member of The Crossing, appearing on McCloskey’s ‘Zealot Canticles’, which won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance. Also in 2019, members of The Crossing and The New York Philharmonic, under Jaap Van Zweden, performed the world premiere of Julia Wolfe’s 2020 Grammy-nominated Contemporary Classical Composition & Best Engineered Classical Album, ‘Fire In My Mouth’, released on Decca in August 2019. Additionally, Ms. Anderson was also a part of Rhiannon Giddens’ new opera, ‘Omar’, which premiered at the 2022 Spoleto USA Festival.

 
 

Ms. Anderson can be seen singing in Maestro, the American biographical drama film about Leonard Berstein, starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan. She can be heard as well on the Maestro Soundtrack. Ms. Anderson was also a part of Opera Philadelphia's World Premiere of Rene Orth's 10 Days in a Madhouse, which was listed as No. 1 of Classical Music in 2023 by the Washington Post and nominated for the 2024 International Opera Awards. Last holiday season, Ms. Anderson sang background vocals for Sarah Brightman's 'A Christmas Symphony' concerts. Recently, Ms. Anderson performed in the American Premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s The Listeners.

Currently, Tanisha Anderson sings with Opera Philadelphia, Philadelphia Symphonic Choir, Vox AmaDeus Ensemble, Marian Anderson Historical Society, Marble Church, and at Trinity St. John’s Episcopal Church.
